- The Oakland Cemetery Association
had been organized in 1868 and laid out in 1869. Eli Wilson was
laid to rest with many of his old friends in the Shelby Cemetery
on High School Avenue, where he would remain until a later date,
when his remains and tall, distinctive marker would be moved
by his heirs and placed in Oakland Cemetery.

- He was not one of those who were
a part of the final move after the Salesbook purchased the land
occupied by the old cemetery. He was not one of the group of
bodies and markers that were moved en masse to make way for a
new use of the cemetery land. They would be moved later. . .
